Buying you own gear for Landboarding ( ideally, after you learn )

Kites specifically designed for land based sports (Foils)

Foil kites are designed for usage over land and are the way to go for LandBoarding.  A  2.5 - 3.6 meter is
an ideal kite size for most people to start with, and later you may want to consider a larger 5 - 9+ meter for
the light winds or for jumping.
The 2.8-3.6 meter kites are super versatile.  
Small enough to be used as a "trainer kite" and big enough to be considered 
a traction kite providing good low end power to pull you on a landboard or Snowboard.

LandBoards / All-Terrain Boards / Mountain Boards:  The Basics

There is a large selection of these type of boards on the market.

Some things to consider:

Deck size: longer and wider for a more stable ride and larger riders.
Deck Material:  Wood,
Rider Stance:  Wider for taller people and stability. 
Narrower for smaller people and tricks.
Weight:  If your goal is airtime, or your are lightweight rider, choose a lighter model.
Trucks:  The Metal part that connects the wheels to the Board deck.
Stiffness of trucks:   Soft= loose and carvy, (may wobble at speed).  
Stiff = More control at higher speeds.
Trucks:

Skate trucks	Bionic trucks  (made by Ground Industries)
are very light, generally looser,  but tend to wobbly at high speed	are very tough, and the ride can be customized (adjusted) to fit any rider, style, or conditions just by swapping the "torsion cube"  ( small bushing in the truck)
	G.I.  Torsion Cubes: interchangeable Bushings (spacers) with varying stiffness that can be swapped when using the "Bionic" trucks.

Shock absorbing ability:  A concave bottom provides a flexy surface for landings and bumps.
Tire diameter and width:    8" diameter is pretty standard for a variety of surfaces. 

 

GI Knobbies	3" Wide "Sick-Slicks"
for grass, dirt, and hard-packed sand. (most common type of tire)	for smooth surfaces: pavement, hard-packed sand, and not-so-hard-packed sand. The slick tires have a much wider footprint that lets them float over soft surfaces.  Some people also like to use slicks on on grass and dirt for more of a slippery snowboard feel. ** Wide Slicks require; "GI Multi Hubs"

Prices:
Complete Board Price:  $100 to $500.  Many excellent boards in the $200 to 400.. range.
99 to 150 price range are generally only for kids and very light riders.
199 to 299 are the most po

"Hi. Just wanted to let you know the mountainboard ROCKS !!!!
It is just totally awesome to get pulled around with a kite!!! I LOVE IT!
Know I somewhat understand what kiteboarding is all about, and why it
is so addictive. Progress is rapid; I've already logged 12 or so hours on
the board.  Have been using a 2m training foil, but am going to go up to
a 4-line inflato 5m I've got for more power! Maybe it is good condition here
are not good for kiteboarding; if they where, I'd probably quit my job and
