Buyer Beware
Many Retailers, both online
and store fronts sell Kiteboarding gear who don't have a clue about the sport
because they don't ride, or don't ride well enough to understand the pros and
cons of the different types of gear. Other retailers will sell you gear
without concern for your safety. Its already happened in my own
town. Shop from and support resellers who are REAL Kiteboarders and
NOT just posers.
Be cautious of retailers that only sell "one" brand, or tell you that
there is only one brand worth buying. The fact is there are lots of excellent kites and
boards on the market, and most have more similarities than differences.
Its OK, to
shop around, ask questions, check a
few prices, and make an educated decision AFTER you complete a lesson.

In rare cases, some retailers are complete idiots and even dishonest!
A friend in Pensacola told me they went
into a local kiteboarding shop to purchase a kite to use on the road with roller
blades. a 2 meter kite, or maybe a 3 meter foil kite would be about right.
The local shop tried to sell them an 11.5m Inflatable to use on concrete
with skates!
Here's a good one, In September
2000, Kitemare.com visited Tarpon Springs, Florida to do a Kiteboarding
demonstration. the plan was to teach people how to fly 2m trainer kites, Teach the importance of safety, and to
do a bit of riding to promote our new
sport.
Upon arriving at "fred howard Park" the park supervisor informed
me that they had just banned the sport at the park "yesterday" based
on one out-of-control rider named Howard who was apparently terrorizing the
place by yellow a swimmers to get out of his way.
Here comes the good part..... A local St.Pete watersports shop was fasely telling
people that KITEMARE.com was responsible, in part, for the ban, that occurred
"before" we even showed up. Yeah.... I know......
its amazing, the world has its share of loosers.
**On the flip side, there are lots of
honest professional kiteboarding business owners around the world that really
care about the customer, Kiteboarding, and sharing the stoke.
